Donate Old Bikes to Foster Kids this Saturday 9/26

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I got my first bike with a big red bow on its sparkly blue vinyl seat.  It was almost bigger than the tiny potted fir tree that held it up with fragrant tinseled branches.

I found out later that it wasn’t just a toy, it was freedom.

I rode down the street, and eventually to school, to the park, and to my friend’s places, and it was fun too.

If you have an old bike that needs a new home, or you know someone who does, you can give the gift of freedom to local foster kids in the community this weekend on Saturday the 26th.

This Saturday, families from all over Pleasant Hill will gather at PH Park for a pancake breakfast and then disperse throughout the city to work on various projects which help make our community a great place to live, work and play.  Community Service Day (http://www.ci.pleasant-hill.ca.us/index.aspx?NID=514) Including this Build-a-thon.

Bicycle Build-A-Thon Project; (http://www.ci.pleasant-hill.ca.us/index.aspx?NID=531)

We take donated bicycles, tricycles, and/or scooters and refurbish them to be given to needy kids (mostly foster kids). Stations are set up to evaluate, repair, wash and test-ride bikes.  We will also accept donated bikes at the park that morning.  For any questions or to volunteer on the day contact Mary Gray at the above link.

* Drop off donated bikes at Pleasant Hill Park curbside on Cleaveland by the volleyball sand pit between 9AM-1pm.
