BTCEB’s Candidate Survey & Election Guide

Fall 2026 election day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Vote-by-mail ballots arriving October 5!

The upcoming November 2026 elections will have several races with significant impacts on East Bay open space land management and mountain bike access.  We ask that you become an informed voter, research the candidates, and participate in these elections.  Electing decision-making officials that are willing to work with the trails community are key.  All the EBRPD candidates were requested to participate in our survey.  Links to their responses are posted below along with their campaign website information. As a 501(c)(3) organization, BTCEB cannot make endorsements in candidate elections but can provide educational information. We ask that you reach out to your friends and neighbors, especially voters in these contested races and help make sure they are informed and engaged. While these candidates are elected by wards, they have influence over the entire district. Every resident and visitor to Contra Costa and Alameda Counties is a stakeholder in these elections.

There are contested elections for East Bay Regional Park District Wards 3, 5, 6 and 7 and for East Bay Municipal Utility District Wards 2, 3, 4, and 7.   The EBRPD Ward 6 race only has one candidate: John Mercurio, the current incumbent. Under California AB 408 (Municipal Utility District Act section 11852.5), the EMBUD has the authority to appoint sole unopposed candidates rather than proceeding with a costly election, and so incumbent Luz Gómez (Board President) was re-appointed as the unopposed candidate in EBMUD Ward 2 and incumbent Andy Katz was similarly appointed as the sole candidate to file in EBMUD Ward 4.

See which EBRPD ward you live in by looking at the EBRPD Ward Map, or enter your address in the EBRPD Ward Lookup tool. See which EBMUD ward you live in by downloading the EBMUD Ward Map or EBMUD Ward Description.

Freehub PRESENTS: A Mountain Bike Film Festival

Freehub PRESENTS, brought to you by Arkansas Tourism, is a collection of films from not only some of the best filmmakers and riders but also new up-and-comers, all given the proper big screen experience. The 2026 MTB film festival includes the short films Sweet San Francisco by Clay Porter, Where There’s a Will by Pierre-Luc Arseneau, I Have It All by Robin Sansom, Bike Short by Kevin McDevitt, Monochrome by Peartree Productions, Without A Doubt by Darcy Hennessey and Brandon Watts, and Return to Something by Alex Chapin.

BTCEB hosted a viewing of the MTB film festival at The New Parkway Theater in Oakland’s Uptown district on the evening of Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Thanks to the sold-out crowd of the MTB community who joined us to watch the films, share food and drinks, and hang out afterward — many even discussing plot ideas for their own MTB short films. Will one of them end up in a future edition of Freehub PRESENTS?

During an intermission, BTCEB raffled off prizes from White Industries, SRAM/RockShox, Freehub Mag, Leatt, Vittoria tires, and Enduro Bearings using donations made to CAMTB’s Ibis Dreambike Giveaway as entries. Thanks to Michael Anzalone from CAMTB for helping us select raffle winners from the list of Dreambike Giveaway donors using a random number generator, and thanks to David Wilcox for collecting the raffle prizes. The raffle made for an exciting intermission and offered another way for donors to win prizes from their Dreambike Giveaway donations. CAMTB registered donations of more than $2,000 associated with BTCEB during our movie night event: just over a third of the total BTCEB-associated donations of $5,855. Thanks to everyone who donated!

Winners Announced in 2026 CAMTB Dreambike Giveaway!

The 2026 CAMTB Dreambike Giveaway closed on September 27 (after the deadline was extended by 24 hours) with a bang! A huge congratulations to all of the prize winners and an even bigger thank you to everyone who entered, donated, and supported along the way! Together we raised over $80,000 to support our shared advocacy for cycling, trails, and public lands across California. That includes $42,716.25 going directly to local trail stewardship programs across the state. Thanks to your generosity, BTCEB is earmarked to receive $4,391.25 to help fund our advocacy and trail stewardship programs. The donation window to participate is now closed, but if you’d like to support BTCEB’s ongoing local advocacy efforts in the East Bay, please consider making a one-time or recurring donation here or keep visiting us at btceb.org to follow our efforts.

Thanks to every rider, advocate and trail lover who bought a raffle ticket. Your contributions ensure that CAMTB and its local member organizations like BTCEB can continue doing the heavy lifting to build and protect the trails we love.

Thanks to our partners who made this possible, especially Ibis Cycles for the dream bike and unwavering support for trail advocacy. Shout out to SRAM/RockShox, Peak Design, A Singletrack Mind, Delium Tires, and Formula 100 for making this our raddest giveaway yet.

Trails don’t build or protect themselves and this is what advocacy in action looks like.
