Bill Hasenjaeger of Trail Boss gives a great tutorial on basic drains. These are the backbone of volunteer trail maintenance and are the most common thing we work on. Managing water off the trail keeps it from flowing down the trail and creating rills or ruts along with preventing puddling and soft spots that leave tire ruts or lead to widening of the trail.
Give it a few minutes and you’ll be more informed for that next volunteer day. Thanks to Bill Carson from the Oakland Tech MTB team for turning us on to this Singletracks video and getting his team out on to trail work.
