Briones Pilot Update – April 17, 2023 Start Target!

EBRPD is aiming for a start date of April 17 for their trail management pilot. They held an open house and workshop on February 25th that was well attended. EBPRD provided more details on their current plans for the pilot and it’s objectives, solicited further input and feedback, and provided an opportunity for discussion among the various Briones trail users and stakeholders.

Park district staff are working on adjustments to the pilot plans based on the feedback and discussion. If you weren’t able to make the meeting the park district did publish a video with some information on the pilot and some summaries of discussion points and feedback received at the meeting.  Watch for updated information on the park’s pilot project website.

The pilot is intended to be dynamic so its reasonable to expect changes through the 2 year pilot. They have provided means for feedback via a survey and direct email address. Feedback and pilot results should be significant drivers in the how the pilot is shaped over time. The pilot is a very significant step for the park district to find ways to work through issues they’ve had managing trails and access.

It’s likely there something everyone won’t like about the pilot and you won’t be alone. Engage the park district with constructive feedback and proposed solutions to problems if you have ideas. They are managing trails considering a broad number of factors so while they may not put your suggestion in play it doesn’t mean they didn’t listen. The pilot is something different and it’s not intended to be the end all. We ask that you give the pilot a chance, do your best to engage within the pilot rules, and engage the district on your biggest issues.
