Soaring Hawk Then and Now

What is the history of the Soaring Hawk trail, the only trail in Anthony Chabot Regional Park on the east side of Redwood road?

What are all those ruts along the trail? Why is one end of the trail marked TRAIL CLOSED – NO ENTRY?

There was a time when a special interest group – motorcycles – had their own playground on East Bay Regional Park District land, with a special trail built for them to do whatever they wanted. This arrangement lasted for thirty years, before motorcycles were given new land in the next county east, and this trail was returned to use by foot, horse, bicycle wheel.
