Filing deadline approaching for EBRPD Director elections

The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) covers all of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. EBRPD is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors, with each Director representing a specific geographic area of the District known as a ward. Directors are publicly elected to four-year terms with elections staggered every two years in November. Wards 3 and 5 from Alameda County and Wards 6 and 7 from Contra Costa County are up for this year’s general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Do you enjoy spending time in East Bay parks and ever wonder about how existing trails are maintained? Or wonder why EBRPD allow bikes on some fire roads but not on narrow trails? EBRPD Directors are the final decision makers on most park district decisions of substance, including approving all new bike access to singletrack and funding and prioritization of trail projects. How would you like to run for election for one of these EBRPD Director positions?

As the time this post is written, the incumbent from Ward 3 has not filed for reelection. Ward 3 comprises the election precincts of Castro Valley, Fairview, and portions of Fremont, Hayward, San Lorenzo and Union City, all within Alameda County. If know you know someone in Ward 3 that would be a good candidate, please reach out to them and encourage them to file for the upcoming election. Nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, August 7, 2026, if the incumbent is running — or Wednesday, August 12, 2026 if the incumbent does not file.
