We’ve been hearing a lot of people interested in trail maintenance training and we at BTCEB at working on bringing you something for that. In the meantime here’s a good resource that will give you a solid primer on the fundamentals. This guide comes from the folks at the UNH Cooperative Extension in Durham, NH and they call it their Stewardship Training Guide.
Key topics that apply directly to our trail stewardship that you’ll find in this guide include:
* Trail Terminology
* A Tools Discussion
* Clearing Drains (the most bang for your trail maintenance buck!)
* Brushing
* Tread Maintenance
* Safety, PPE, Hazards
For those of you that learn well by reading this will be a good resource to complement field experience. For those that learn better by hearing or lecture we’re working on that but not quite ready. Field experience is key no matter what type of learner you are and we’re working on creating more opportunities to get out there.
